Alumni Spotlight - Remi Monaghan, Class of 2015

Remi Monghan Alumni Spotlight 1

Which schools did you attend? What year did you graduate?
I attended Lessenger Elementary, Page Middle School and Lamphere High School, Class of 2015

Where do you live now? East Lansing, Michigan

Remi Monaghan Alumni Spotlight 5Tell us about what you've been doing since graduation:

I currently attend Michigan State where I am studying journalism with a concentration in journalism and minoring in public relations. Since my freshmen year at state I have been working at the Big Ten Network Student U where we produce different types of sporting events that get broadcasted onto
btn2go.com and the BTN TV channel. I also am writer for an online publication called The Tab. I was lucky enough to be one of their summer interns this past summer in New York City and learned so much from their amazing staff!

Remi Monaghan Alumni Spotlight 2At MSU I also joined the sorority, Sigma Kappa. We have an amazing sisterhood and in November I was elected to our executive board as the Vice President of Programming. In this role I bring in outside facilitators to speak to our chapter about different topics that are important to us.

Remi Monaghan Alumni Spotlight 3Tell us about your family and/or hobbies:

My mom and brother still live in Madison Heights, my brother Ryan is a senior this year at LHS and will attend Ferris state in the fall. My dad lives in Ferndale. They are incredibly supportive in what I do. I am dating a wonderful boy named Kevin. We have been together since our senior year of high school. He went to De La Salle Catholic High. He also attends MSU and is studying political theory and constitutional democracy (AKA pre-law). We love attending MSU sporting events together and eat way too much Chipotle.

Remi Monaghan Alumni Spotlight 4How did your years at Lamphere affect your life?

With it being such a small school, I was able to create important relationships with my teachers, administration and fellow students which have been able to make the adjustment to college easier than I expected. My teachers at Lamphere are still to this day some of my biggest role models and I really appreciate the lessons I learned that made me the student and adult I am today. I would be no where without the time-management, integrity and loyalty traits they taught me.

If you had a message for current Lamphere students what would it be?
Take time to become friends with your teachers because they are there to help and support you, whether you like it or not.
